January 24, 2011 - Doha, Qatar - Nesrin Ozalp, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A&M in Qatar, heads the Sustainable Energy Research Lab, which this year has a $2.2 million budget from the Qatar National Research Fund. She is the inventor of a new kind of clean reactor that uses solar energy and natural gas to produce hydrogen and carbon black (a carbon by-product used in car tires and conveyor belts) . ..The countries of the Persian Gulf, whose wealth depends entirely on their reserves of oil and natural gas, may not seem the most likely patrons of "green" technology. Yet governments across the Arabian Peninsula are establishing programs and institutes dedicated to research into alternative energy and environmental sustainability. In state-of-the-art new facilities, scientists and graduate students from around the world are working on developing more affordable solar cells, more efficient desalination processes and new aviation bio fuels. ..(Photo by Andrew Henderson for The Chronicle of Higher Education )CT Wedding Photographer Andrew Henderson, 422 Villa Ave Fairfield CT 06825 - (203) 997-2332
